The South Island Championship 2025 in Dunedin concluded this weekend with players competing in the Standard & Rapid tournaments.

The venue "Leviathan Hotel" historic charm combined with its proximity to local attractions added to the overall experience of the tournament.

With eight rounds in the standard tournament, CM Isabelle Ning of Auckland scored 7 out of 8 games, winning the tournament. An amazing performance in the tournament with 6 wins and 2 draws.

CM Edward Rains with a score of 5.5 was declared the 2025 South Island Champion.

The book prizes added an extra layer of excitement to the competition, rewarding players for their strategic upsets.

In the Rapid tournament, CM John Stark and Richard Jingjie Liu tied for 1st place with a score of 5.5 out of 6.

The event attracted players from various regions of New Zealand, thanks to the efforts of the Organiser Quentin Johnson and the support of the Otago Community Trust.

Few pictures captured of the surroundings along with a handwritten score table by the Organiser, a rare sight and unique masterpiece.
