Final Results at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary
We have the final results of the 45th Chess Olympiad held at Budapest, Hungary.
India snatches the Gold Medal in the Open and Women's Category, they are the combined winners in both the categories for the first time.
New Zealand on the other hand, did pretty well at the Chess Olympiad, 70th spot in the Open and 48th spot in the Women's Category from nearly 200 teams in each category.
We missed some opportunities to convert, however it was the best result for both the teams in the Open and Women's Team.
Women's Team came 4th in the Category prize missing the 3rd spot. Two of the female players Yolanda Chang and Nadia Braganza, achieved the WFM title ie Women FIDE Master title.
Nadia Braganza, crossing the ELO 1900 rating points with a performance of 2111 to score 7 out of 8 games; 6 wins and 2 draws, securing the 13th spot for Board 5.
With various opportunities introduced in New Zealand for chess in schools, clubs, communities, tournaments; its great to see junior players taking the initiatives to learn chess and improve the game play.
The future looks bright for chess in New Zealand as well as chess around the world.
