FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Team Championships 2026: A Double Crown for Dragon Chilling

The FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Team Championships 2026, held in Hong Kong for the first time, was a tremendous success. Organised from 16–22 June 2026, the event brought together some of the world's strongest chess players and provided fans with a unique opportunity to meet many of their chess heroes in person.

The championship featured an impressive lineup of top grandmasters, including GM Magnus Carlsen, GM Fabiano Caruana, GM Alireza Firouzja, GM Hans Niemann, GM Ju Wenjun, and many others.

In both the Rapid and Blitz team competitions, Team Dragon Chilling emerged as the dominant force, winning both titles. The team was led on Board 1 by GM Ding Liren of China, with GM Wei Yi playing on Board 2 and Ju Wenjun. The team's outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned them the 2026 World Rapid Team Championship and 2026 World Blitz Team Championship titles.

Interestingly, the team name Dragon Chilling is widely believed to be inspired by GM Ding Liren, who is known for his calm and composed playing style. The team certainly lived up to its name, delivering consistently strong performances across both events, which were played on consecutive days.
