FIDE World Championship - Ding & Gukesh happy with a draw in Game 2
My thoughts....
Today is Day 2 for Game 2. Ding Liren, coming off a victory in the first game, made a careful move with e4 on the chessboard from the Italian Opening line. Gukesh Dommaraju, mindful of his previous loss, responded with e5 taking half the space of the board.
As the game unfolded, both players mirrored each other's moves until Ding made a strategic move with a pawn on a4, advancing it to the 5th rank. The early exchange of Queens left the chessboard in the hands of the 4 Knights, strategically eyeing the weak squares and pawns.
With 23 moves on the board including the 3 fold repetition moves, both signed off the scoresheet with the result 1/2 - 1/2 for game 2 of the FIDE World Championship.
As for the viewers and for the fans, this result will ease some of the pain from the game 1 result. The determination and skill displayed by the players in today's match indicate a promising performance leading up to the World Championship Title in 2024.
